What I Wore In Amsterdam

Starting the year off right with a quick holiday to The Netherlands, a country I’ve seen only in photos and heard of in conversations. My brothers and I visited Amsterdam on a three day trip filled with Museums, Parks, and Bikes! It didn’t take long to fall in love with the architecture surrounding the canals across the city. However, I must say, I still don’t feel safe crossing the roads in Amsterdam with all the bikes coming from left, right, and centre!

Comfort is key

In every holiday/road trip, you want to make sure you’ve got everything: Passport? Check. Toothbrush? Check. Clothes? Check. But for me, the most important part of packing is making sure I have comfortable clothes, especially on the plane journey. So on this short trip, I decided to bring two jackets, one hoodie, one sweatshirt, two shirts, two pairs of trousers – these make up the outfits that I put together in Amsterdam.

Outfit 1 – nothing tight during the flight

Hoodie: Topman
Jacket: Thrifted from Loot Brighton
Trousers: Pull&Bear
Shoes: Converse

This is my aeroplane outfit and it really is just all about comfort – you don’t want to be stuck on a plane journey in layers of tight clothing. So I wore my Topman oversized hoodie that I actually wrote about in one of my first blogposts and love to wear on casual days. Over it, I wore the harrington jacket that I thrifted from one of the many vintage stores in Brighton. This is definitely one of my go-to jackets when going on holiday – it’s comfortable, easy to pack, and warm! If you follow me on Instagram, you’d know how much I love pinstripes, and these Pull&Bear trousers are no exception. There’s nothing I hate more than skinny jeans on a plane journey so these baggy trousers saw me through my short-haul flight to Amsterdam! Mind you, it was only 50 minutes.

Outfit 2 – staying warm in Amsterdam

Sweatshirt: Gildan
Shirt: ASOS Man
Jacket: Thrifted from Loot Brighton
Bag: ASOS
Trousers: Pull&Bear
Shoes: Converse

Since buying this ASOS Man shirt, I’ve been obsessed with wearing shirts in different colours – they’re just such a good layering piece and are really easy to wear! I’ve wanted to add colour to my outfits and shirts are a really good way to start. On this particularly chilly day in Amsterdam, I layered the shirt with a plain white Gildan sweatshirt. The oversized fits of the sweatshirt and the shirt works so nicely with the slight baggy fit of the trousers and harrington jacket. What I haven’t mentioned yet is my man-bag/fanny-pack/bum-bag which has been a lifesaver on this trip! It’s just so much easier than carrying around a huge backpack with you.

Outfit 3 – same but different

Tee: H&M x The Weeknd ‘Spring Icons’
Shirt: ASOS Man
Jacket: ASOS Man
Bag: ASOS
Trousers: Bershka
Shoes: Converse

It’s probably evident now that I styled my outfits around my shoes and to be honest, on a 3-4 day trip, is it really worth bringing more than one pair of shoes? So with my Converse Chuck Taylor’s in mind, I picked a similar outfit for Day 3. The weather in Amsterdam was pretty similar to the UK except, you know… less rain. My striped longsleeve¬†tee from the H&M x The Weeknd ‘Spring Icons’ collaboration paired with my ASOS Man shirt saw me through our last day. I absolutely love this combination because it shows that comfort doesn’t need to compromise with style! In this outfit, I wore my Bershka trousers with a slightly tapered bottom that sits nicely on my Chuck Taylor Hi’s. To complete the outfit, I layered a black corduroy jacket that has been getting so much wear recently – it’s the perfect jacket for the transition between Winter and Spring.

I absolutely loved Amsterdam and definitely want to visit other parts of The Netherlands for longer. It was extremely easy to get around the city with the metro/tram system, but as I mentioned, I still don’t feel safe walking/crossing the streets. We visited the Van Gogh Museum, strolled around Vendelpark and Oosterpark, walked around the Red Light District, and cruised around the canals on a boat! There’s still so much to see so it’s definitely on my list to visit again…
